Christmas Present from Getty Images

As an employee of Getty Images in Seattle (as a Software Developer, not a Photographer), I often thought it would be cool to also be a contributor of imagery as well. People say it’s rather difficult to get images accepted at Getty, so I thought it would be a nice honor to belong to that club. At first I didn’t have any images worthy of consideration, but over time I thought I might actually have a chance, so I indicated my interest by checking the “Make your photos eligible for invitation by Getty Images” option on Flickr a while back. So now what? There are thousands of images uploaded to Flickr every minute. Would I get noticed?

Well, this past Christmas morning, I got the email from Flickr:

Flickr has partnered with the fabulous Getty Images to offer an invitation-only service for Flickr members to license their photos for commercial use.
The Getty Images team has noticed your work on Flickr, and is pleased to offer you an invitation to enroll with them.

Nice Christmas present! I think I spent the rest of the morning analyzing the Getty contract before deciding it was safe to sign.

Am I going to retire on the royalties from these images? No. But it’s still feels good to have cleared that hurdle!

Oh, the images! You can find them here.
