Another Darkroom Gallery Win!

Well, that’s two wins in a row for me in the monthly contests held by the Darkroom Gallery in Essex Junction, Vermont! This time it was my image American Dipper in Lake O’Hara that won a spot in their Curvilinear contest.

Last month I won Honorable Mention, or what amounts to 2nd place, with my image Lunar Eclipse and Aurora Borealis in their contest Nocturne. This month I’m one of the pack, back in position #16, but still grateful for having been selected from a group of what I thought were very strong images.

The Darkroom Gallery is a northern Vermont based gallery dedicated to recognizing photographers and exposing their work to the public. They host exhibits each month with images selected by a different independent juror, providing opportunities for photographers from around the world to have their work evaluated for display in their gallery.

This is the third time I’ve felt I had an image that was ideal for the theme of a Darkroom Gallery contest, and thus the third time I have entered one, and somehow I’ve managed to win all three times! My first entry was my image House of Blue for their Color Story theme back in 2013.

This month the theme was Curvilinear. The idea was to present “planar lines that wind, wend and soar through a image’s field of focus…Curved lines are graceful, rhythmic, dynamic and add energy to an image”. I had several images that I thought might catch the juror’s eye, and the standard entry allows for four to be submitted, but it was the American Dipper that I felt had the best chance of winning, and it seems I guessed right.

The exhibit opens on October 15th and runs through November 8th.

A reception will be held on Sunday, November 1st to honor the winners. But unlike the last time, unfortunately I won’t be able to attend.
