I am sorry to report that tonight’s BeerZaar at the Issaquah Brewhouse has been canceled. Some of our vendors had to cross passes that were under a winter weather advisory and did not feel comfortable making the trip. The event was scheduled from 5-8 PM on December 5th, 2016. But we will reschedule. Stay tuned!

It's hard to believe it's been a year already, but the holiday season is upon us again, and so is BeerZaar! Avoid the malls, shop small, and help local businesses and artists by shopping at the Issaquah Brewhouse BeerZaar Monday night!

Merchants seem to have two schools of thought about Black Friday these day: Open stupid early and encourage all kinds of bargain shopping chaos, or give employees the day off to go hiking. Well, I'm going to do both!

I have the privilege of living on a small mountain in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, and on top of that mountain is a huge urban wildland park. This week I decided to hike in to what I refer to as my "back yard" and see what kind of late autumn photographs I could find.

Last week in Larch Lake and the Scottish Lakes High Camp we talked about visiting Larch Lake to photograph the fall color of the turning larches. Now I'll tell you the story of the Scottish Lakes High Camp and how it came to be!

While on a backpacking trip in British Columbia a few years back, I asked some experienced backcountry photographers where the best place was to photograph larch trees in the fall. Without hesitation, they unanimously responded, "Larch Lake!". So when my friend Max asked me if I wanted some vouchers to stay in the high camp near there, he didn't have to ask twice!

What do you do when heavy snows destroy the only bridge that hikers can use to cross a fast-running and dangerous river? You get out there and build a newer, better one by hand, of course!

Two weeks ago in Five Years Ago This Week I went back in time to revisit a gorgeous wildflower-covered meadow in Mount Rainier National Park. This week we'll go back even further to some fall hikes in the North Cascades from six years back.

After our river canyon hiking adventure the day before, my friend Jeremy and I were ready to photograph - you guessed it - more canyons!

As I've mentioned in recent articles, my friend Jeremy and I had planned to photograph the famous river canyon at The Narrows in Zion National Park, but were blocked by dangerously high flow rates. But that didn't stop us from river canyon hiking for long.

Growing up in south Louisiana, I wasn't familiar with the concept of a "flat". Heck, everything down there is flat. It wasn't until I visited Yosemite that I encountered the term in reference to an area of land. Well, today we'll explore an area called Yant Flat, and it turns out it's not so flat.

As my friend Jeremy and I made our way around southern Utah on our recent photography tour of the American Southwest, one thing was certain - we would revisit one of our favorite places: Zion National Park.

In last week's article, Lake Powell Surprise, my friend Jeremy and I were shooting in the Glen Canyon Dam area near Page, Arizona, when we spotted some sandstone features that reminded us of the famous feature known as "The Wave" in the nearby Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. Since "The Wave" requires a permit that is difficult to get, we decided to check out the local features that were much easier to reach.
